Compositions

Here is a list of my recent compositions

You are welcome to listen to both Reverse Oblong Space Donkey and Inverse Circular Galactic Bunny or together as one (3mins), to give a fuller impression of how they compare together. Both are quite energetic. If you have any comments, please contact Mike, he'll be glad to read your views. Please also note that that this isn't the final piece in the collection. Further mini orchestral pieces in the Universal Animals series will become available as soon as orchestras wish to perform them.

Tree top view or Floating Paper Thin Rhino for Orchestra (4:00)

Composed after leaving London Film School. I wanted to be a little less aggressive in my music at this point, to provethat I could be. And bring in the aggression a little later.

Inverse Circular Galactic Bunny - for Orchestra (2:00)

Written for the Trinity College of Music Sinfonia, this piece is intended as an example of my work and as a sequel to Reverse Oblong Space Donkey. Unfortunately there was only 1 double bass and no bass clarinets present at the recording, I will add them in later. Conducted by Andrew Morley. Recorded by Kit Venables.

Naroo! - electronic sketch (3:00)

Fun little soundscape sketch, performed by Dan Potter, Alex Butters and myself. Thanks to Marc Findon for sitting in too. More in depth notes can be found here: soundscape.doc

Backwards Classicalism - electronic sketch (4:00)

This piece is a sketch for a larger Cello and Electronics piece later on this year. I often like to write sketch pieces when writing a larger work so as to get used to the material/medium for the piece. It is however a piece in its own right. All edits in this piece originate from the cello recording, no additional synthetics were added. It is being performed with Dancers from Laban this November. Cello Performed by Nina Plapp.

Reverse Oblong Space Donkey - for Orchestra (1:03)

Written for the Trinity College of Music Sinfonia, this piece is intended as an example of my work in just a short amount of time, just over a minute. Unfortunately there were no clarinets available for this recording, they will add them in later. Conducted by Andrew Morley. Recorded by Kit Venables.

A Quiet Orchestral Elegy - for Orchestra (5:37)

In the summer of 2004, I wrote this piece for the Trinity composer's orchestral workshop, performed by the Trinity College of Music Sinfonia, after only one 45 minute rehearsal, this is how they realise my piece. I wanted the piece to have an exciting beginning, moving to a quiet, reflective middle section which buids to a climax at the end. Conducted by Ante Skaug. Recorded by Kit Venables.

Sigh - unused cue (1:18)

Sigh is an unused cue from the short film 'I Dream of Being Free' by Tom Bass and Tom French (Dir. Dave Henley). Recorded by Michael J Martin at the Trinity College of Music recording studio. Conducted by Marc Findon. Performed by Sarah Oetegenn, Helen Bower, Ang'Herrad, Alison Jones, Kimberly

Two Trumpets Inside - Trumpet Duet (2:39)

This piece was composed using both improvising techniques as well as a pre-written score and was originally a duet for Trumpet and Flute. Performed by Michael J Martin.

Forgotten Cadence - for Brass Dectet

Performed by the Trinity College of Music Brass Ensemble, this piece is an attempt at building to a climax that never happens. Heavily influenced by the music of Alfred Schnitke, I wanted the piece to emerge from one simple 'neo-baroque' melodic idea. Recorded by Kit Venables.

Nuffsed - for the TCM Early Music Group

The Trinity College of Music Early Music Group were looking for composers to write new music for them, I was happy to oblige and wrote a piece which is energetic, vibrant and based on neo-baroque techniques. An audio file will be available soon.

London Transport: Frustration of Boredom electronic (5:18)

This electronics piece was composed over a period of time beginning from September 2003 and ending around Spring of 2004, I travelled everyday from Mill Hill to Greenwich, which takes about 2 hours and was becoming increasingly annoyed, hot, frustrated, bored, dreamy whilst on the Underground and Thameslink, the delays didn't help one bit. So I decided to write a piece about it.

Resonant - electronic (6:31)

A medative, single chord piece, using Cutt-Off and Resonance to generate a melody.

Fanfare for the Lost trumpet duet (5:01)

Tribute to those who have died as victims of attack. Performed by Michael J Martin and Lance Kelly.

Other pieces will be posted here when they are ready. I thank you for taking the time to listen to these works and hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them.
